The 2011/12 Winter League Final, Tuesday 31st July, 5:15pm.

The Final of this year's Winter League is scheduled to take place on Tuesday evening at 5:15, with Dave B. and Dave H. looking to defend their title from last year against last year's runner's up; Dorian and myself. Spectators are welcome (though not expected!).

The conclusion of the 2011-12 Winter League was reached last night with the long awaited Final between last years Champions, Dave Bryce and Dave Harrold, seeking to defend their title against last years Runner's-Up, Dorian and myself.

Depsite being played at what might be expected to be the 'peak' season, conditions were typically 'wintery' with the greens stodgy, recently tined and sanded - and the rough a hazard in its own right.

DW and DL came out of the blocks strongly, winning the first two holes with pars, but missed a chance to make it 3 in a row, with a 3 putt from around 15 ft on the 3rd.

DH, made an excellent nett birdie to win the 4th, followed by a kick in nett birdie from DB on the 7th after an excellent bunker shot.

DW won the 9th with a par, and DL followed up with another on the 10th to re-establish a 2 hole lead.

The following few holes were traded backwards and forwards: DH chipped in for a nett birdie on 11, pars from DW and DL on 12, and another nett birdie from DH on 13, provided a tight middle section to the match.

The 14th was won with a tap in 2 by DL, who followed up with a par on 15 to take the match to dormie 3. DH missed a 10 footer for a nett birdie on 16 to keep the match alive, and DL and DW's 6 foot birdie putts were both conceded, confirming Dorian and Dan as the new Winter League Champions!

Many thanks to the Dave's for taking part in an exciting and competitive match, and also to all the other teams in the Winter League pool. Arranging 8 matches for each team has been a bit of a challenge, so thank you for all persevering - I hope it has once again provided you all with some entertaining and competitive golf over the winter period.
